Terms of Service

The agreement between you and us when you use Mooring.

Pre-launch draft — under review. Mooring hasn't formally launched yet. These terms are a working draft and we genuinely want your feedback. We may change them at any time before launch. If you're reading this and something seems unfair or unclear, tell us through our contact page.

Mooring is offered by TLA LLC, doing business as Plateau Lane Studios ("we," "us," or "Plateau Lane Studios"). By installing or using Mooring, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.

What Mooring Is

Mooring is an AI assistant that runs as an application on your own computer. It works with your files and your business the way a capable assistant would. To do its thinking, Mooring connects to an AI model from a provider you bring yourself (for example, your own Anthropic / Claude subscription). Mooring is the software; the AI model is a separate service you supply and pay for directly.

Your License

When you subscribe, we give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to install and use Mooring for as long as your subscription is active. Specifically:

The AI Provider Is Separate

This part matters, so we want to be plain about it. Mooring runs on your machine, but the AI model it relies on is hosted by your AI provider in the cloud. When Mooring uses the AI to work on something, the relevant content is sent to that provider for processing, under your own account and your agreement with them. We don't control, store, or sit in the middle of that exchange. How your provider handles what you send is governed by their terms and privacy policy — please read those too. Our Privacy Policy explains this in more detail.

Mooring's permission system gives you control over what the AI is allowed to see and do. You decide what work to hand it.

Pricing & Billing

Mooring is sold as a monthly subscription, per seat. Current tiers:

Prices are in US dollars and do not include the cost of your own AI provider subscription, which you pay for separately. Payments are processed by our payment partner Paddle, who acts as the merchant of record (they handle billing, sales tax / VAT, and receipts). Subscriptions renew automatically each month until you cancel.

Support

Support covers help using Mooring itself — installation, features, troubleshooting, and getting set up. It is not general business consulting, custom development, or support for the separate AI provider or other third-party tools. Where a tier includes a monthly support allowance, that allowance is per account and does not roll over from month to month. Onboarding and custom-setup help included with the $249 tier is delivered remotely within a reasonable, agreed scope; anything beyond that (such as on-site visits) is arranged separately.

Staying Activated

Mooring periodically checks that your subscription is active. If you go offline, it keeps working through a grace period of 21 days. We designed this so a network blip never locks you out mid-work — if your subscription lapses, Mooring winds down gracefully rather than shutting off instantly.

Provided "As Is"

We work hard to make Mooring good, but we provide it as is, without warranties of any kind. We don't promise it will be error-free, uninterrupted, or fit for a particular purpose, and we don't offer a guaranteed uptime or service-level agreement. You're responsible for keeping your own backups of your work.

Limitation of Liability

To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for anything related to Mooring will not exceed what you've actually paid us in the twelve months before the claim. In other words, the cap scales with how long you've been a customer — one month paid is one month of cap, three months is three, and so on, up to a ceiling of twelve months. We aren't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for anything that happens through your separate AI provider or other tools you connect.

Cancelling

You can cancel your subscription at any time; it will not renew for the following month. See our Refund Policy for how refunds work.

Changes to These Terms

Because Mooring is pre-launch, these terms will evolve. When we make a material change, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date below. If a change meaningfully affects you while you're a paying customer, we'll do our best to tell you directly.
